The short version: the salary you type into a calculator on this site is processed in your browser and never sent to a server. What happens to the salary you enter?
It stays on your device. The calculators are code that runs in your browser: when you enter a salary, choose a pay frequency or toggle the HECS-HELP setting, the arithmetic happens on your machine and the result is drawn on your screen. The figures you enter are not transmitted to this site’s servers, not logged, and not stored anywhere after you leave the page. There is no way for this site to know what salary anyone calculated.
Does the site collect personal information?
Not through the site itself. There are no user accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter form and no comment system. The one way personal information reaches this site is if you choose to email the address on the contact page. In that case your email address and whatever you wrote are used to reply to you and to act on what you reported, and are not sold or shared for marketing.
What about hosting and server logs?
Like effectively every website, this site is served by hosting infrastructure that keeps standard technical logs: the IP address a request came from, the page requested, the time, and browser information such as the user-agent string. These logs exist for security, capacity and abuse prevention, and they are a property of serving web pages rather than something this site adds. They are not used to build profiles of visitors. Fonts and all other page assets are served from the site itself, so rendering a page here does not trigger requests to third-party font or script services.
What does the site not do?
No account, no tracking of the salary you type, and no data shared with anyone. The engine described in the methodology runs entirely in your browser, whether you use the take-home pay calculator or any other tool.
Stated as plainly as possible, this site does not:
- Transmit, store or log the salary and pay details you enter into any calculator.
- Require or offer accounts, or hold user profiles of any kind.
- Ask for your name, email address or phone number anywhere on the site.
- Sell or share personal information for marketing.
- Show third-party advertising as at the date above.
Rather than make sweeping claims about every technology that might touch a request, the policy is this: anything not described on this page is not something the site knowingly does, and if that changes, this page will be updated with a dated note before or when the change takes effect.
What about links to other sites?
Pages here link to official sources such as ato.gov.au, fairwork.gov.au and moneysmart.gov.au, listed on the official sources page. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this policy stops at the boundary of pay-calculator.au.
How are changes to this policy handled?
The same way figures are handled everywhere on the site: on the page, with a date. Any material change to what the site does with data will appear here with a note saying what changed and when, following the editorial policy. Questions about privacy can go to the email address on the contact page.
